Tayto Park School Tour

On Tuesday the 24th May, the two second classes went on their school tour to the Tayto Park in Ashbourne. The bus left the school at 9.30 am and returned at 2.30pm. The tour began with a look at some unusual animals. following that, there was a tour of the factory where you could see where and how the tayto are made. After more looking at animals, lunch was had in the Tipi’s. Mr Tayto even came to visit and got in a picture with everybody. To finish off the day, there was a playground which was great fun. When you leave the Tayto park, you even get a free packet of crisps!!! We all had great fun, even Ms Watters, Ms Mongey, Ms Duff and Dolores!!

Recycling

In Ms Mongey’s class, we were learning about recyling. It is better for our environment if we try to recycle as much as we can. In school we have paper bins to save waste. At home  you may have a green/blue bin. It is good to use these as much as you can. We made up our own acrostic recycling poems. in art, we brought in rubbish that can be recycled and use it to make pencil and paper holders for our desks. It was great fun and they are really useful!!

Skype Phonecall!!

Today we made our first skype phonecall to our friends in school!! We made a video call so we could see each other. Michael, Keih, Jack, Harry and Eli all got to talk to five of the Spanish students. They talked about themselves, their families and the weather. It was great fun. We could see their classroom and their teacher and they could see ours. They thought it was strange that we wore uniforms and we thought they were lucky not to have to wear any! We are going to call them again soon and five other boys will get to talk. We are going to prepare a song for them too and they will have one for us.

Samba Workshop

On Wednesday the 2nd of March we attended a sambe workshop in the PE hall. We learned about samba music and the Carnival festival in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. First we learned how to keep the pulse and rhythm using our hands. When we were able to do this, we were given instruments to try it on. Some boys played big drums, others had tamberims, others had cow bells and go go bells. It was very noisy but great fun. The drum teacher had a samba whistle too. He had ear plaugs to protect his ears as he has to listen to the instruments every day. Miss Mongey took some pictures-i think she needed ear plugs too!!
